What is Made in Abyss?
Despite the cute artwork, Made in Abyss is not a light-hearted adventure series.
Made in Abyss started out as a seinen manga series about young adventurers exploring the Abyss — a mysterious, underground realm.
It seems that the Abyss contains a curse, which gets worse the further down you go. Regardless, the Abyss still attracts adventurers and explorers, thanks to the treasures found within.
The main character, Riko, is searching for her long-lost mother. Her mother was a “Cave Raider” who disappeared into the Abyss.
The manga began in 2012, and the first season of the anime aired in 2017. A second season ran in 2022. The manga is still ongoing, and season 3 was announced in January 2023. There have also been movies.
Where is Made in Abyss Available on Netflix in 2024?
For this article, we checked Netflix libraries in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore. We found the series in Japan, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore.
Japan offers more content, but you have to understand Japanese to watch the extra content. Therefore, your choice will depend upon whether you prefer more content, or more languages.

How to Get Past Netflix’s Geoblocking
On Netflix, content is segregated so that it only appears in certain countries’ libraries. This is known as “geoblocking” or “geo-locking.”
There are two ways around this issue — one is to travel internationally. However, a cheaper and more practical option is to get a VPN.
How to Watch Made in Abyss on Netflix if The App Isn’t Available in your Country
As of this article, Made in Abyss is available on Netflix in Singapore. However, if the anime series is geo-locked in your area, a VPN can help.

Why is Made in Abyss Not Available in All Countries’ Libraries?
Why does Netflix geoblock content? As long as subscribers pay, why not just let us watch all of Netflix’s content worldwide?
The main problem is licensing. Licensed anime is a good thing, because it allows creators (animators, voice actors, anime studios, etc.) to earn money by selling streaming rights to various content providers.
Netflix, Crunchyroll, and others compete to get the best anime licenses. If a series is only available at Crunchyroll, that probably means that Crunchyroll holds an exclusive license in your region.
Licenses are typically only valid for one nation or region. The streaming companies must abide by the terms of the license, so they geolock content.
However, they can’t stop subscribers from traveling to other countries. A VPN lets you “travel” without leaving home. Most nations, including the U.S., consider VPNs to be legal — to varying degrees.
Streaming services are aware that people use VPNs to watch anime. And they will block unreliable VPNs. But enforcement is spotty, and I suspect there’s some “plausible deniability” in their help and support messages.

Sentai Filmworks’ anime streaming website, HIDIVE, has both seasons and the three movies. The language options are better for season 2 than for season 1. But both have English subtitles.
In December 2023, HIDIVE cut back on its international service. It is currently only available in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
