If you’re looking for a good gift for a Pokemon fan, how about a Pikachu hat?
The little yellow electric mouse is fairly popular among Pokemon fans, although some recent polls would suggest that the character’s popularity might be slipping. And, as the mascot for the whole Pokemon franchise, Pikachu naturally has a lot of merch.
Hats or caps are also good items to have, as they can keep your head warm, or keep the sun out of your eyes. Our list also includes some fun headwear for an anime convention or other cosplay-friendly event.
But first, let’s take a look at this friendly Pokemon.
About Pikachu
Pikachu has been a big part of the Pokemon story since the first video game came out in 1996. When the Pokemon anime came out in 1997, Pikachu was paired up with main protagonist Ash Ketchum (a.k.a. Satoshi). And the two have been together ever since.
In the first season of the anime series, Pikachu is initially portrayed as a feisty little troublemaker, who doesn’t always obey Ash’s every command. (In fact, he zapped Ash in his first appearance.) But the little guy learned to behave, and he’s generally been Ash’s most loyal companion.
Unlike most Pokemon, he doesn’t stay in his Pokeball, preferring to travel outside with Ash and the other humans. Pikachu could be described as smart, curious, cheerful, determined, and fun-loving.
For some reason, Team Rocket is obsessed with Ash’s Pikachu, and many early episodes have “stealing Pikachu” as a plot device.
In the game, Pikachu is #025 of the original 151 Pokemon in Generation 1. He’s an electric Pokemon. His name is Japanese onomatopoeia — “pika” for an electric spark; and “chu” for the sound a mouse makes.

1. Moving Ears, ZenPlus
We’ll start our list with this unique and unusual fuzzy hat shaped like Pikachu’s head. The hat’s main defining feature is that Pikachu’s ears can move.
Pikachu’s ears are controlled by a couple of dangling bits which hang down. You can’t see the paws in the photo, but these bits have little paw pads on them. When you squeeze the paws, Pikachu’s ears move up or down.

2. Detective Pikachu Hat, Pokemon Center
This is a version of the deerstalker cap that Pikachu wears in the Detective Pikachu video game and movie. It includes a pair of plush Pikachu ears. That way, you know it’s a Detective Pikachu hat, and not just Sherlock Holmes’ hat.
Even though Sir Arthur Conan Doyle never specifically mentions a deerstalker by name in his books, this distinctive hat has become an iconic symbol for the detective, and for sleuths in general.
If you look inside the hat, you’ll see a tag identifying it as belonging to Harry Goodman. Goodman was Detective Pikachu’s partner, whose mysterious disappearance drives the plot of both the game and the movie.

3. Kigurumi Costume Cap, ZenPlus
If you want to look like Pikachu, consider this kigurumi-style costume hat. It wraps around your entire head, and has a strap to help hold it in place.
If you live outside of Japan, you might associate the word kigurumi with a type of hooded, full-body onesie pajamas. Kigurumi can also refer to the doll-like, masked cosplay outfits that you might encounter at anime conventions.
However, in this case, the term just means “costumed character.” It’s similar to the Moving Ears hat mentioned above.

Our next hat could be described as a baseball cap version of the kigurumi hats. Pikachu’s smiling face sits on your head. And the hat has a pair of ears sticking up.
This hat is a “snapback” cap with a curved bill. (Snapback means that the cap adjusts with a strap in the back which snaps into place.)

5. Pinstripe Baseball Cap, Pokemon Center
If there was a Pokemon-themed baseball team, its caps might look something like this.
This baseball cap features the word “Pikachu” in a sports-style font, along with Pikachu’s smiling face. It’s white with gray pinstripes, and the bill is navy. Like most of the hats on this list, it is adjustable.
Again, just like with the Detective Pikachu hat, the Pokemon Center (U.S.) does not ship outside the U.S. However, the Canadian Pokemon Center does have this cap.

This blue cap features a lot of lightning bolts, which is appropriate for a Pokemon with electric powers. Most of the cap is blue. But the underside of the bill, and the adjustable strap in the back are yellow.

This cap has an interesting black-and-yellow design. It says “Pikachu” in katakana (Japanese lettering) in the front. Lightning bolts rain down on the yellow side.
A determined-looking Pikachu is on the side of the cap, near the back. This is an adjustable snapback cap.

Yellow Pikachu ears are important to wear if you want to cosplay the iconic Pokemon. The lightning bolt tail is also a defining Pikachu characteristic. The tail stands up straight. A yellow outfit of some sort would complete the Pikachu cosplay look.

These 10 hats and caps are just a small sampling of the many types of Pikachu headwear available.
When I made this list, I tried to pick a variety of stylish, interesting, and/ or unique styles and designs. For example, baseball caps are extremely common, but they only represent four out of 10 hats on my list.
Hopefully, there should something for everyone. Also, many of these could probably be worn anywhere where casual hats are acceptable.
