Chiikawa is taking over Hong Kong’s harbourfront this summer with a full-scale art event — and the headline attraction is wonderfully absurd: the world’s first giant Chiikawa carousel.

According to Anime! Anime!, CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE will run from August 1 to September 6, 2026 in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. The event is built around illustrator Nagano’s Chiikawa world and will include original-art displays, immersive installations, event merchandise, and the outdoor CHIIKAWA-Go-Round by Victoria Harbour.

What Is CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE?

CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE is being presented as a large special exhibition rather than a simple pop-up shop. Hong Kong English coverage and the K11 MUSEA event listing describe the venue area as K11 MUSEA and the Tsim Sha Tsui Harbourfront, with indoor exhibition space and an outdoor carousel installation.

The event focuses on the art behind Chiikawa, not only the character-goods side of the brand. Coverage points to more than 130 replicated original illustrations and several themed zones, including art, music/interactivity, installations, and the kinetic-art carousel area.

The Big Draw: CHIIKAWA-Go-Round

The CHIIKAWA-Go-Round is the obvious fan magnet. Anime! Anime! describes it as the world’s first giant Chiikawa merry-go-round, set near Victoria Harbour. Japanese reports also note that it is not only a photo spot: visitors with the relevant special ticket package can actually ride it.

That distinction matters. A giant character installation would already travel well on social media; a rideable Chiikawa carousel turns the exhibition into a destination event for fans in Hong Kong, Japan, and nearby regions.

Why This Is Bigger Than Another Cute Pop-Up

Chiikawa has become one of Japan’s most powerful character brands because it balances cuteness with a surprisingly anxious, bittersweet edge. The characters are adorable, but the world can be strange, unfair, and emotionally specific — which is exactly why adult fans respond so strongly to it.

That makes an “Artiverse” framing smart. Instead of treating Chiikawa only as mascots on goods, the event leans into Nagano’s illustrations, world-building, and visual language. The giant carousel is the hook; the art angle is what gives the event more depth than a standard limited shop.
