If you’re a fan of anime series about high school girls playing guitar, you’ll definitely want to watch Bocchi the Rock! online.

Many have compared this series to K-On! for obvious reasons — both feature schoolgirls who start a rock band with dreams of making it big. However, the two are actually very different. Both comedy series are quite good. But Bocchi is almost a deconstruction of the more optimistic and silly K-On!

We can help you figure out where to watch Bocchi the Rock! online. But first, what is this series?

Bocchi the Rock! Basics

Bocchi the Rock! episode at Crunchyroll - Hamaji Aki/ Houbunsha/ Aniplex

In Bocchi the Rock!, the title character is an extremely shy and introverted schoolgirl with social anxiety. She learns to play the guitar — quite well, in fact — but lacks the confidence to start her own band.

Luckily, she meets some other girls who have already started a band, but they need a new guitarist. The slice-of-life series focuses on the band’s progress, but the real heart of the show is Bocchi learning to break out of her shell.

The animation is also visually fun to watch, with a lot of creative asides into other art styles.

Bocchi the Rock! History

Much like K-On!, the series started out as a yonkoma, or four-panel manga. Aki Hamaji created the series, which has appeared in Manga Time Kirara Max since 2017.

The first season of the anime ran from October to December 2022. As of May 2023, there has been no announcement of a season 2.
