In most shonen anime stories, the creators invent all the characters. But as we shall see in this character guide, the main Spy x Family characters forge their own identities within the anime itself.
Let’s look at what happens when a spy, an assassin, and a mind reader create a family.

Main Spy x Family Characters: The Forger Family
Loid Forger (a.k.a. Twilight) is, in many ways, the perfect spy.
When he’s on an undercover mission, he is alert, attentive to details, and seems to have a photographic memory. He can make the perfect disguise. He has combat skills and marksmanship.
And yet, at the beginning of the story, he seems a bit out of his element when he has to create a fake family as cover for an important mission.
Of course, part of the fun of Spy x Family is watching “Loid Forger” slowly get into his new role as husband and father.
He’s still Twilight the master spy. But, as the series progresses, he shows that he truly cares for Yor and Anya — not just as citizens who have to be protected, but as a wife and adopted daughter.
Anya knows her father is a spy; Yor doesn’t.
Her adoptive father may be the primary driving force behind Spy x Family, but Anya is the heart and soul of the Forger family and the series as a whole.
Her big secret is that she’s a telepath. As a result, she knows about both Loid’s and Yor’s secret lives. Initially, she’s willing to keep these secrets because she’s a spy fiction fan and life is more exciting this way. But she’s also a devoted and loving daughter.
Anya is the cutest thing currently in shonen anime. But after all, she is only six. She talks in a funny/ cute little kid way (mostly malaprops and mispronunciation). As a former orphan with a really bad childhood, she has limited social skills — her attempt at smiling looks more smug than anything.
As a telepath, she’s aware that she plays an important part in her father’s spy mission, and she’s determined to succeed. In essence, she has to be an excellent student at her prestigious school, and/ or she has to make friends with Damian Desmond.
Her mind reading is problematic — she can tell when somebody is lying, worried, or scared, and that visibly bothers her. But overall, she’s a happy, energetic little weirdo.
Her trademark favorite food is peanuts.
Yor Forger is Anya’s adoptive mother. She’s also an assassin. Loid apparently doesn’t know — although he’s had his suspicions, especially when it’s revealed that Yor’s brother Yuri Briar is in the secret police.
So far in the Spy x Family anime, Yor has gotten the least focus of the Forgers. The series has paid much more attention to Loid’s spy work, or on Anya trying to do her best at school. This has placed Yor into the stereotypical “supportive wife and mother” role — a role that her training didn’t prepare her for.
As an assassin, she has all of the skills that you would expect from a trained killer. She’s good with knives, physically strong and agile, and she teaches Anya some (overpowered) self-defense. Unfortunately, she’s not good at hiding these skills.
In public, she comes across as naïve and a bit awkward. She’s also a horrible cook.
Bond is the Forger family’s large, white dog. (According to most sources, he’s a Great Pyrenees.)
When he’s first introduced at the beginning of the second cour, he belongs to a terrorist organization. After the Forgers help foil a terrorist plot, he ends up as their pet.
Like the rest of the Forger family, Bond has a secret — he has precognition of the future. Anya is the only one who can understand his visions, thanks to her telepathy. He’s also large enough for Anya to ride on.
Side Spy x Family Characters
Henderson is a harsh and serious teacher at Eden Academy. Although he’s tough, he’s fair and not mean. He has high expectations for his students. He’s obsessed with elegance, although it’s not clear just what qualifies as “elegant.” He’s often impressed with the Forgers.
Franky Franklin (or “Scruffy” to Anya) is an informant and close ally of Twilight’s. He’s an important source of information, whether it’s helping Anya enter Eden Academy or helping Twilight find a wife.
“Scruffy” is also a good source of comic relief, such as his “villain” role in Mission 5; or when he fails at romance in Mission 16.
Damian Desmond is one of Anya’s classmates at Eden Academy. He’s also the second son of the VIP who is Twilight’s mission target. Somehow, Anya has to become friends with this rich jerk.
As it happens, Damian has an excuse for his snobbish, arrogant attitude. As the second son, he’s ignored at home.
Becky is Anya’s best friend at Eden Academy. As the daughter of a CEO, she shows some spoiled rich girl traits. But when Anya gets bullied, Becky tries to protect her.
She also misinterprets Anya’s friendship “mission” as a crush on Damian.
