About The Vision of Escaflowne
Hitomi Kanzaki is a high-school runner whose tarot readings and visions become real when Van Fanel, a young prince fighting a dragon, appears on Earth. A pillar of light carries them to Gaea, where Earth hangs in the sky as the Mystic Moon and armored machines called Guymelefs decide wars. Hitomi becomes entangled in Van’s struggle against the Zaibach Empire, while her ability to foresee possible futures forces her to confront how fear and desire can shape fate.
Is The Vision of Escaflowne Worth Watching?
Yes, especially if you like fantasy adventures that treat romance, war, and giant robots as parts of the same story. Its hand-drawn world, Yoko Kanno and Hajime Mizoguchi score, and unusually emotional approach to mecha still give it a distinct identity. The plot moves quickly and can feel melodramatic, but that intensity is also a large part of its appeal.
