The TV anime adaptation of Recommendation from Mr. Iwamoto has a Japanese premiere date. MANTANWEB reports that the series will begin airing on July 4, 2026 on TOKYO MX and Sun TV.

The announcement also confirmed two additional cast members and both theme-song artists, giving the upcoming adaptation a clearer shape ahead of its summer debut.

What Was Announced?

  • Premiere date: July 4, 2026
  • Japanese broadcast: TOKYO MX and Sun TV
  • Opening theme: “BUDDING” by THE JET BOY BANGERZ
  • Ending theme: “Koko ni Iru” by WOLF HOWL HARMONY
  • New cast: Gakuto Sato as Sasa Meguruu and Shinnosuke Tokudome as Mizuhi Awayu

The series is based on Hiroshi Shiibashi’s manga, serialized in Shueisha’s Ultra Jump. English coverage commonly uses Recommendation from Mr. Iwamoto, while the romanized title Iwamoto-senpai no Suisen is also in circulation.

Who Are the Newly Announced Characters?

MANTANWEB identifies Sasa Meguruu as a second-year student at Seihou Middle School, while Mizuhi Awayu is a first-year student who loves Japanese dolls. The source also published comments from both actors, with Sato pointing to the story’s mysterious tone and early-modern atmosphere, and Tokudome highlighting the strange, beautiful world created by Shiibashi.

The already announced main cast includes Taito Ban as Kodo Iwamoto, Yuki Sakakihara as Kai Haramachi, and Kent Ito as Soichiro Amaba. Additional cast listed by MANTANWEB includes Akira Ishida, Masaya Fukunishi, and Takuma Nagatsuka.

What Is Recommendation from Mr. Iwamoto About?

The story is set in Japan in the 1910s and follows Kodo Iwamoto, a student at Seihou Middle School, an army-affiliated institution. The premise revolves around Iwamoto encountering and recommending people with unusual or supernatural abilities, giving the series a “romantic strange tale” flavor rather than a standard modern school-anime setup.

That period setting is the hook. Instead of using supernatural powers in a contemporary battle-school frame, the series places odd abilities and emotional character stories against a Meiji/Taisho-adjacent historical atmosphere.

Why This Could Stand Out in Summer 2026

Shiibashi is best known for Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, so there is already a built-in reason for supernatural manga fans to pay attention. The anime staff also gives the project a classic-TV feel: Toshifumi Kawase directs, Keiichiro Ochi handles series composition, Atsuko Nakajima designs the characters, and Studio Deen produces the animation.

For overseas fans, the key detail is that the English coverage is already active. Crunchyroll News and Anime Trending both picked up the date and theme-song reveal, which suggests the title may have more international visibility than a quieter Ultra Jump adaptation might normally receive.
