Chiikawa is heading into its first movie with a new trailer, a new Hachiware song, and two more major cast reveals.
The official movie site and Anime! Anime! report that Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu will open in Japanese theaters on July 24, 2026. The latest update centers on a 90-second trailer for the film, which adapts the fan-favorite “Siren” island storyline from Nagano’s original manga.
What the New Trailer Shows
The trailer follows Chiikawa, Hachiware, Usagi, and the rest of the familiar cast as they arrive on an island that first appears welcoming. The trip quickly turns stranger when the group learns why the islanders invited them: they are expected to help deal with a Siren threatening the community.
That setup is exactly why the movie matters for longtime fans. The Siren arc is one of the bigger and weirder Chiikawa stories, mixing cute travel imagery with the slightly unsettling danger that gives the franchise its bite.
Hachiware Gets a New Opening Song
The trailer also confirms the film’s opening theme, “Kutsuzure”. The song is written by Nagano and performed in-character by Hachiware, voiced by Makoto Tanaka. That keeps the film closely tied to the original creator’s voice instead of treating the movie like a standard franchise spinoff.
For fans who remember Hachiware’s TV anime song “Hitorigotsu,” this is one of the more charming parts of the announcement. The film is using music not just as promotion, but as a way to fold the manga’s island material into the movie’s atmosphere.
New Cast: Shimajiro and Siren
The update also names two important new cast members. Tsuguo Mogami voices Shimajiro, the mysterious shop owner Chiikawa finds deep in the woods. Minori Suzuki voices Siren, the singing character at the center of the island’s danger.
Those two roles are likely to get extra attention because the Siren arc depends heavily on tone. It needs to feel cute, funny, and tense at the same time, which is exactly the balance that has made Chiikawa travel so well outside Japan.
