2020 has definitely not been the best year for anime as many highly anticipated shows got delayed because of the pandemic. Despite this fact, this year has still given us some must-watch gems like Re:Zero Season 2 and Jujutsu Kaisen. Today, we are going to take a closer look at the best anime of 2020 that every anime fan needs to watch.
TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You
TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You is the most wholesome anime of fall 2020, and it can be a great watch for almost any kind of anime fan. This shounen-romance show follows the story of a young boy named Nasa Yuzaki. Yes, this boy’s name has been inspired by the world-famous space company, NASA. Because of his strange name, Nasa got ridiculed a lot as a kid. However, instead of getting sad, Nasa decided to try his very best in order to become a famous and successful person in the future.
It seemed like Nasa was on the right track until he met a beautiful girl named Yuzaki. Yuzaki saves Nasa’s life on a snowy night, and he falls in love with her at first sight. When Nasa confesses to her, she tells him that she will only go out with him if he decides to marry her. Nasa agrees to her proposal, and the two eventually get married. Now, we follow the wholesome life of this couple as both of them try to bond with each other.
Tower of God
Now, let’s talk about the most unique anime of 2020. Tower of God is an anime adaption of a Korean comic, and it brings something completely new to the world of shounen anime. This action anime follows the story of a young boy named Bam, who has spent most of his life in a dark and hollow cave. Bam leads a very lonely life until a girl named Rachel suddenly appears and becomes his close friend. Rachel tells Bam all about the beautiful world outside of this empty cave.
A majestic tower exists in this world. Whoever climbs this Tower of God can realize their deepest desires. One day, Rachel suddenly abandons Bam and decides to go and climb this tower. Being left all alone again, Bam decides to go after Rachel.
The Day I Became a God
The Day I Became a God is an original anime that is being created by P.A. Works. Only 3 episodes of this anime have aired so far, but it is already shaping up to become one of the best anime of 2020. The Day I Became a God has the same creator as some classics like angel Beats and Charlotte. This anime portrays the story of a young boy named Youta Narukami. One day, Youta is suddenly approached by a little kid who calls herself a God. This little kid named Hina is somehow able to predict the future, and she claims that the world is about to end in 30 days. We follow the story of Youta and Hina as they try to overcome great challenges every single day.
Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen is a new shounen anime that is currently airing in the fall season of 2020. This anime has decided to take a very fresh and exciting approach towards the shounen genre. With a relatable cast of characters and brilliant animation, Jujutsu Kaisen is a must-watch anime.
This masterwork follows the story of a young high schooler named Yuuji Itadori. Yuuji used to live a very simple and peaceful life, but everything changed when he accidentally discovered a cursed object. After Yuuji’s friends remove the seal on this object, a lot of demonic creatures come to take their lives. In order to save the lives of his friends, Yuuji decides to eat this cursed object. After this encounter, Yuuji decides to use his new-found abilities to save every innocent person from these demons.

Sing “Yesterday” For Me
If you are looking for a romance anime with a lot of drama, then Sing “Yesterday” For Me definitely deserves a spot on your watchlist. This anime has a heart-touching story and an amazing cast of characters. Sing “Yesterday” For Me follows the story of Rikuo Uozumi, who is living a very boring life. After graduating from college, Rikuo decides to work at a convenience store.
Rikuo’s boring life is interrupted one day when a mysterious girl named Haru decides to make her appearance. Rikuo soon discovers that his old classmate and crush named Shinako has moved back into town. Rikuo tries his best to get closer to Shinako while also dealing with Haru.
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2
Re:Zero season 2 is one of the best anime of 2020 that every fan needs to check out. While the first season of Re:Zero was pretty good, it did not really expand on the story as well as season 2. Re:Zero follows the story of a young boy named Subaru Natsuki. One day, Subaru suddenly gets transferred to a fantasy world while he is walking out of a convenience store. This fantasy world looks quite beautiful and exciting at first.
However, Subaru soon realizes that this fantasy world is exceptionally horrifying and dangerous. Of course, Subaru is also given a special ability in this new world! This boy is able to go back in time whenever he is killed. Yes, this ability does sound quite amazing; however, it is going to become Subaru’s worst nightmare.
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Season 2
I am going to finish this list off by mentioning a very wholesome anime that every single anime fan needs to check out. Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Season 2 is even better than the first season as it introduces something completely new in every single episode. This season gives us to tons of interesting characters to make the story even more entertaining. Kaguya Sama: Love is War follows the story of two lovers named Miyuki and Kaguya, who are both constantly trying to make the other person confess their love. Together with Chika and Yuu, Miyuki and Kaguya are a part of the student council.
For these two, love is war, and they don’t want to lose!
