If you’re a fan of isekai anime, you should watch Isekai Izakaya “Nobu” online.

The series, also known as Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World,  puts a clever twist on isekai. Instead of transporting adventurers to a fantasy realm, this one introduces medieval people to traditional and delicious izakaya pub food.

Somehow, the front entrance to the titular Izakaya “Nobu” links to a medieval fantasy world, while the back leads to modern-day Kyoto.

The result is an entertaining isekai comedy series, with touches of NHK-style cooking documentary.

Unfortunately, Isekai Izakaya can be difficult to find. However, we can help you find where to watch Isekai Izakaya “Nobu” online.

About Isekai Izakaya “Nobu”

Isekai Izakaya on Crunchyroll - Natsuya Semikawa, Takarajimasha/ City Council of Ancient Aiteria

Like a lot of isekai series, Isekai Izakaya “Nobu” started out as a light novel.  In 2014, Takarajimasha picked up the self-published novel by Natsuya Semikawa.

A manga adaptation began in 2015. Sunrise adapted the story to an online anime series in 2018. In 2020, a live-action TV version was produced. A second season of the live-action version came out in 2022. A third season will arrive in 2023.

Note: Even though Isekai Izakaya and Isekai Shokudo (a.k.a. Restaurant to Another World) sound similar, they’re not related.

Where to Watch Isekai Izakaya “Nobu”

1. Crunchyroll

Isekai Izakaya on Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll has the 2018 Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World anime series.

If you’re in a region where you can’t get Crunchyroll (or your Crunchyroll content is limited), you can still watch the series if you have a VPN.

The process is similar to using a VPN to stream Netflix. As I found in my review of 5 Best Anime VPNs, NordVPN is a good choice for this.

How to Watch Isekai Izakaya on Crunchyroll via VPN

This method works on both desktop PCs and mobile phones or tablets.

  1. Purchase (or start a free trial) of a VPN. I can confirm that NordVPN works for this purpose.
  2. In the settings, choose the United States as your location.
  3. Fire up the VPN and wait for it to do its magic
  4. Once you’re connected, navigate to Crunchyroll (browser or app)
  5. Search “Isekai Izakaya” in the Crunchyroll search bar and you should see the anime pop up.

Enjoy! Please note that if Crunchyroll doesn’t update to reflect the country you selected in your VPN, you may have to clear the Crunchyroll cache first and try again.

To do this on mobile, go to settings -> apps -> Crunchyroll -> clear cache. To do this on PC, you have to clear the cache in your web browser.

2. Rakuten Viki

Isekai Izakaya "Nobu" on Rakuten Viki

Rakuten isn’t one of my usual suspects, as it specializes in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Thai live-action TV and movies, rather than anime. But it’s useful if you want to watch the 2020 live-action version of Isekai Izakaya “Nobu.”

Here in the U.S., I was able to watch the first episode of the first season for free, without creating an account or subscribing to Rakuten’s VikiPASS. But I did have to disable my ad blocker. VIkiPASS eliminates the ads.

Also, the streaming video ran into technical glitches a couple of times. This seemed to affect later episodes, not the first one.

Creating a free account can be done through Google, Facebook, Apple, Rakuten, or email.

Season 2 is listed separately.

Pros

  • A lot of live-action shows from East Asia
  • Free viewing options, and free accounts available
  • Decent language options

Cons

  • You need to buy a VikiPASS to avoid ads
  • Technical issues

Language options: Japanese with English, German, and Portuguese subtitles.

Price: Free options available. VikiPASS: 7-day free-trial, then $4.99/ month. VikiPASS Plus: $9.99/ month after free-trial period

3. VRV

Isekai Izakaya at VRV

VRV has all 24 episodes of the 2018 anime series.

For all practical intents and purposes, it’s the same as parent company Crunchyroll. If you have a Crunchyroll account, you can link the two together. Since March 2022, the streaming service has been slowly merging into Crunchyroll.

For the time being, VRV users can watch the Mondo Channel, which isn’t included on Crunchyroll. Premium VRV members also have access to VRV Select. However, VRV is also only available in the U.S.

Pros

  • The same as Crunchyroll
  • Mondo Channel adds oddball animation which Crunchyroll doesn’t have
  • VRV Select adds Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and more

Cons

  • Only available in the U.S.
  • In the middle of a Crunchyroll merger

Language options: Japanese with subtitles in English, German, Latin American Spanish, European Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.

Price: Free account option. 30-day free trial of VRV Premium, then $9.99/ month. Mondo only, $2.99/ month.

  • Japanese language only
  • Japanese payment requirements
