After four exciting anime seasons, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will soon come to a grand finale movie ending.

According to reports, the shonen anime series will not have a season 5. Instead, Demon Slayer’s conclusion will consist of a trilogy of films.

The three new films are named after the Infinity Castle arc of this epic manga series. Fans generally categorize Infinity Castle as the first sub-arc to the Final Battle arc, followed by the Sunrise Countdown sub-arc. However, these movies will apparently bring the story to a final conclusion.

At the end of June, Crunchyroll announced that it will stream the films worldwide — except for Japan and “select Asian territories.”  The announcement came on the same day that the streaming website added the dramatic conclusion to the Hashira Training arc. Hashira Training is the next-to-last arc before Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba enters its final arc.

What Can We Expect From Infinity Castle?

Since Infinity Castle is based on manga chapters which are already out, we do know some things about the upcoming movies.

Without giving away too many spoilers, Infinity Castle is home to Muzan Kibutsuji, the chief antagonist to the whole Demon Slayer series, and the main leader of the demons.

We’ve seen the castle before in the series — it’s a mind-bending, gravity-defying, and physically impossible space worthy of a demon king.

The final story arc picks up where the Hashira Training arc ended. Episode 8 of the Hashira Training arc featured a confrontation between Muzan and the master of the Demon Slayer Corps, Kagaya Ubuyashi.

(In addition to being epic, the episode is also longer than a normal one, at 40 minutes long.)

In the final story arc, Tanjiro and the other demon slayers go to Infinity Castle to battle the demons there, including Muzan himself.

At press time, the trio of films didn’t have a release date yet.

Note: Infinity Castle can also be partially translated as Mugen Castle. In Japanese, it uses the same kanji as Mugen Train.

About the Series

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba tells the tale of the enthusiastic and determined demon slayer Tanjiro Kamado. Tanjiro trains and fights with the goal of helping his little sister, who was transformed into a demon.

It takes place during the Taisho Period, a modernizing era which followed the Meiji Restoration in Japan.

Koyoharu Gotouge wrote and illustrated the Demon Slayer manga series. The series first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2016. The shonen manga reached its conclusion in May 2020.

The manga was adapted into an anime series in 2019. The anime has had 63 episodes so far, divided into four seasons (the second season had two cours, so some websites count season 4 as season 5). In addition, the series has had three moviesMugen Train, To The Swordsmith Village, and To the Hashira Training. All of the films are canon to the manga.
