One Piece Synopsis
One Piece is the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his journey to become the Pirate King. Throughout his journey, many different characters come into contact with Luffy and end up allying with him. There are hundreds of characters in One Piece, all of which come from many different backgrounds.
Hundreds of villains appear throughout the series and the stakes only get bigger. Mysteries of a missing century, an ancient kingdom, and more loom as Luffy and his crew travel.
Main Characters in One Piece
Monkey D. Luffy
Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy is determined to become king of the pirates! He is very outgoing and loves to feast and party after successful missions. Luffy has the power of the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which allows his body to utilize the properties of rubber.
He attacks enemies by stretching his arms and legs, and even inflating them with air to make massive fists of destruction. Luffy’s straw hat was given to him by Red Hair Shanks, who asked Luffy to return it to him once he becomes a great pirate.

Roronoa Zoro
Roronoa Zoro is the First Mate of the Straw Hat Pirates. He is the second member of the Straw Hat Pirates, joining Luffy right at the beginning of the series. Zoro utilizes a three-sword style, wielding one in each hand and one in his mouth. He is one of the most popular One Piece characters.
Zoro is feared for being a threatening pirate hunter. However, when Luffy saved him at a marine base he asked Zoro to join his crew. This led to Zoro himself becoming a pirate, which guided him toward his goal of becoming the world’s greatest swordsman.
Nami
Nami is the Navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates. She was the third member to join, although she ran away for a period and then officially joined afterwards. She loves treasure more than anything and will do anything to obtain it.
Her dream is to create a map of the entire world. She fights utilizing the Clima-tact, a weapon that allows Nami to shape and use weather-based attacks.

Usopp
Usopp is the Sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates. He utilizes long-ranged attacks to fight enemies from afar. Usopp was the fourth Straw Hat pirate, joining in the Syrup Village arc. He pretended to be a pirate before meeting Luffy, but after defeating the Black Cat Pirates he joins the Straw Hat Pirates as a real pirate himself. Usopp’s father is also a pirate, serving in the Red-Haired Pirates with Shanks.
Usopp was known for being extremely timid and scared, but he learned to conquer his fears. His dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea.
Sanji
Sanji is the Cook of the Straw Hat Pirates. He prepares all the meals for the crew. Sanji joined the crew as the fifth member after Luffy met him on Baratie, the giant floating restaurant in the middle of the East Blue. He attacks enemies by using his leg, dealing striking blows with kicks.
Sanji’s dream is to find the All Blue, the place where the North, East, South, and West Blues supposedly meet. He is always seen with a cigarette in his mouth.
Tony Tony Chopper
Tony Tony Chopper is the Doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates. Chopper met the crew in the Drum Island arc, where he joined Luffy and the gang as their doctor. His job is to take care of the crew members and have medicine on hand during battles in order to heal his crewmates.
Chopper ate the Hito Hito no Mi, which allows him to transform into a human hybrid. He is originally a reindeer, but the powers of this devil fruit allow him to take on multiple different forms to attack enemies. His dream is to learn the cures to all diseases in the world.

Nico Robin
Nico Robin is the seventh member of the Straw Hat Pirates. Robin acts as the Straw Hat’s historian of sorts, with her knowledge of ancient languages allowing them to decipher Poneglyphs left behind. She is one of the more unique One Piece characters as she was originally a villain to the Straw Hats.
Robin has the power of the Hana Hana no Mi, which allows her to recreate any body part and place it anywhere. She regularly recreates hands to trap and smash enemies. Nico Robin’s dream is to uncover the lost knowledge of the Void Century, a time period that has been completely erased from history.
Franky
Franky is the Shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates. He built the Thousand Sunny, the current ship the Straw Hats own, when the Going Merry gave out and needed to be replaced. Franky is a cyborg with many different weapons at his disposal. He was the eighth member of the Straw Hats after joining in Water Seven.
Franky’s dream is to build a great ship and maintain it throughout its adventures. He is currently living his dream as a part of the Straw Hats!
Brook
Brook is the Musician of the Straw Hat Pirates. He was the ninth member of the Straw Hat Pirates. Brook has the power of the Yomi Yomi no Mi, which allowed him to revive after dying. He now is a living and breathing skeleton, styled with an afro. He longs to share his music with everyone and is skilled at multiple instruments.
Brook’s dream is to go and find his lost friend, Laboon. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji met Laboon as they were entering the Grand Line.
Jinbe
The last of our One Piece main characters is Jinbe, the Helsman of the Straw Hat Pirates. He steers the ship and controls the maneuverability of the ship. Jinbe was formerly one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea before joining the Straw Hat Pirates. He is the tenth member of the crew.
Jinbe’s dream is to free the divide between the fishmen and humans. He wishes to allow the fishmen to live on the surface in unity with the humans of the world.
