If you’re waiting for season 3 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, you will want to learn more about Muichiro Tokito. Muichiro will be one of the stars of the season.

In a series full of flashy, loud, funny, memorable, cowardly, and downright weird characters, Muichiro doesn’t exactly stand out in a crowd.

However, if the manga and ufotable’s previous announcements are any indication, we can expect to see more of Muichiro when the anime returns.

Who is Muichiro? And what is his role in the anime and manga?

This post will have spoilers, of course.

Before we can fully understand Muichiro, let’s review where the anime currently stands with the manga.

Over the course of two seasons and the excellent Mugen Train movie, the Demon Slayer anime series has covered a lot of story arcs. These include: Final Selection, Kidnapper’s Bog, Asakusa, Tsuzumi Mansion, Mount Natagumo, Rehabilitatation Training, and Mugen Train.

The second cour of the second season ended with the Entertainment District arc. All of these arcs are canon and largely faithful to Koyoharu Gotoge’s epic shonen manga.

The story begins with Tanjiro Kamado on a quest to return his sister, Nezuko, to normal. This desperate search causes Tanjiro to join the Demon Slayer Corps. Tanjiro fights various demons, and meets new allies, Zenitsu and Inosuke.

At Mount Natagumo, our trio of protagonists encounter the deadly Spider Demons, and barely get out alive. Muichiro makes his first appearance shortly after that.

Muichiro’s Introduction and the Future

The Mount Natagumo battle leads into the Rehabilitation Training arc, which is where we first meet Muichiro Tokito.

Muichiro is introduced during the Hashira meeting at Demon Slayer headquarters. He appears briefly in the Mugen Train arc, and gets a foreshadowing mention in the Entertainment District arc.

Everything beyond this point is manga-only. According to ufotable and Aniplex, the third season will feature the Swordsmith Village arc.

If you live in Japan, or if you have a VPN such as NordVPN, you can watch the first Japanese promo on ufotable’s YouTube channel here. If you don’t own a VPN, Aniplex USA has an English language version here.

We don’t want to give away too many spoilers to those who haven’t read the manga. However, we can say that the Swordsmith Village arc will feature Tanjiro’s sword. In addition, Muichiro will fight an Upper Rank demon.

What is Muichiro’s Role in Demon Slayer?

Muichiro is the Mist Hashira, one of several top-ranking demon slayers. At first glance, Muichiro doesn’t leave much of an impression.

In Muichiro’s first appearance (anime episode 22), Tanjiro finds himself hauled before angry Hashira for breaking corps rules — specifically, protecting a demon (his sister). It’s a tense situation for our hero.

But Muichiro doesn’t really add much to the conversation. He seems distracted by the sky and the clouds. His one main contribution is when the Master of the Demon Slayer Corps shows up. When the Master states that he approves of Tanjiro and Nezuko, Muichiro’s reaction is indifferent. “I’m fine either way,” he says.

How Strong is Muichiro?

So far, the anime hasn’t provided much information about Muichiro’s strengths or abilities.

But considering how difficult basic Demon Slayer Corps training is, you obviously don’t become an elite Hashira for nothing.

We get a clue about Muichiro’s true strength during the Entertainment District arc, when fellow Hashira Tengen Uzui praises Muichiro’s abilities. Muichiro is apparently a 14-year-old child prodigy. He became a Hashira very quickly, despite his young age.

For more details, we have to turn to the manga (again, avoiding spoilers). As the Mist Hashira, Muichiro naturally uses Mist Breathing. He is a master swordsman with a white Nichiren katana. He’s obviously a very powerful demon slayer.

Muichiro Figures and Merch

With his very plain look and limited exposure in the anime (thus far), Muichiro probably isn’t the first character to come to mind for colorful Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba merchandise. Still, there is something to be said for his large, mint blue-green eyes, and minty turquoise hair tips.

If you like Muichiro, ZenPlus has figurines and other merch featuring his plain black uniform, long black hair, and huge eyes. You can buy a T-shirt, cosplay outfits, figurines, plushies, keychains, toys, and more at ZenPlus. If you need Demon Slayer hand cream, ZenPlus has that, too.

If you can’t find what you are looking for at ZenPlus, you may want to try Amazon.

Conclusion

I hope that this short explanation helps you understand Muichiro better. Most of the information came from the anime, not the manga.
